The Centre for Gippsland Studies is a Faculty of Arts research centre for the Gippsland region, specialising in the history, Aborigines, environment, social sciences and literature of Gippsland and is located at Monash University Gippsland Campus
As a centre specialising in a region of Victoria that has diverse industrial, agricultural, environmental and recreational concerns and activities, the Centre contributes to national research and documentation of rural and regional Australia.
The Centre for Gippsland Studies houses a library/archive that contains books, journals, newspapers, reports, manuscripts, ephemera, photographs and maps relating to the history, Aborigines, environment, social sciences and literature of Gippsland. The collection has been built largely by donation from the Gippsland community. It consists mainly of large format black & white photographic prints. There are also 35mmm colour slides, a small number of colour prints, glass negatives (with print copies of adequate quality for digitising), colour transparencies, and postcards.
Almost 2000 images from the Center’s picture collection are available online through the Monash University ARROW Repository.
