Camden Council Library Service
HistoryPix: Camden’s Photosearcher, contains a unique collection of over 1,800 images of the Camden district from pre-1870 to the present day. The Camden area is historically significant in being the place where the Macarthur family began Australia’s wool industry. The area, for many years a rural district, on the edge of the Sydney metropolis, now faces the challenge of urbanisation. The database focuses on people and places and documents change in the physical and built environment.
The database is a joint initiative by Camden Historical Society, who hold originals of the images, and Camden Council Library Service. New acquisitions will be added to the collection and donations are welcome.
An ordering service for print copies of images is being developed and information will be available through this site when introduced. Copying images for publication or commercial use is not permitted without written consent.
