SCRAN (Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network)
SCRAN is a Scottish-based Internet service that brings together information from museums, galleries, archives, the media and contemporary and performing arts agencies to support learning through access to images, movies, sounds and virtual reality.
With over 350 agencies contributing content to the service, SCRAN provides access to an extensive database of cultural material that supports the education sector in particular, as well as use by the general public.
The material that may be found in the service includes still images, video clips, audio clips, virtual reality, and essays and each record is complemented by a concise text caption to provide additional context.
SCRAN is an invaluable resource covering work, play, inventions, space travel, the human past, present and future, and some unusual nooks and crannies in between. While the focus is on material relating to Scotland in some capacity, the inclusion of a selection of images relating to Australia in Picture Australia reveals the global connections that can be made.
