Thuringowa City Libraries

Thuringowa City occupies an area of 1872 square kilometres on the northeast coast of Australia between 18 55S, 146 8E and 19 43S, 146 45E. Thuringowa is adjacent to the city of Townsville. Originally Thuringowa Shire, it achieved city status in 1986.

The image collection held at Thuringowa Library Services includes over 1,000 images relating to Thuringowa which are available online. The images cover the period from the early 1900s to 1990. The collection portrays life, especially rural life, in Thuringowa. Some early families such as the Kelsos and areas such as Paluma, Rollingstone and the Upper Ross are well represented. There are also a range of images reflecting rural life and life in the region during World War 2.

Digitising and indexing of images is ongoing as new images are added to the image collection. Persons wishing to donate images of Thuringowa should contact the Library Manager.
